The Navy is the most technologically advanced branch of the U.S. military and they needed an experience to reflect that. We teamed with Helios, a Google partner, to build a brand-new virtual reality experience allowing potential recruits a chance to operate as Navy SWCC Boat captain. It gave our audience a chance to not only interact with cool new tech, but a glimpse into the life of a Navy SEAL.
As the lead art director and designer, I was challenged to create journey that engage potential recruits before, during, and after events. We created several mobile footprints scaling all the way up to a semi-truck so that we could bring the experience to any size crowd all over the country. To let recruits know that we would be in their area we sent out target emails and notifications to alert them.
When recruits arrived at our footprint they were given RFID dog tags to check in and out of various portions of the footprint like the VR experience, the pull up challenge, and scheduled discussions with Sailors. The dog tags became a popular give away and a great marketing tool to get others to come check out our experience.
Inside the mobile units’ recruits engaged with two videos. The first, to explain their upcoming mission the role that the SWCC team plays in the SEAL teams. The second shows how well they scored on their VR mission and various jobs they may be interested in as a result.
